80 years to Astana International Airport
The history of the capital airport starts from December 1st, 1931, when first scheduled air service between Semipalatinsk and Akmolinsk was implemented. (Day of the airline). That time the air movement had an episodic character, the schedule indicated: "Flight on Monday morning" or "on Wednesday at sunrise." Transportation of passengers, mail cargo carried out on the following aircrafts: K-4 K-5, PR-5, P-5, P-2. Airport was located at 3 km from the city, at the territory of which there was a square field for takeoff and landing of aircrafts, adobe station that consisted of 8 rooms with a small hall with a soil airstrip, a small house of two rooms for the pilots, basement storage of gasoline, as well as adobe equipment for heating oil and water.
Then, almost three decades later, on May 9, 1959 United Air Akmola detachment was organized. An additional planes AN-2 were given to the squadron in the same year, thus dramatically increase the network of local airlines. In October 16th, 1960 Akmolinsk airport was awarded a third class. In 1962, in accordance with progress in technology during this period in area of Tselinograd (former Akmolinsk) a new airport with the airport complex, with a runway capable of taking heavy jet and turbo-screw ships had been built.
Today Astana Airport - is one of the most modern airports in the Eurasian continent, which has the best runway, terminal area of 24 950 sq.m., modern hydrant fueling system, special equipment, lighting equipment, advanced meteorological and aeronautical systems. The airport has been certified with Category III A. Astana International airport has become one of the largest centers for passenger and cargo operations in Kazakhstan, due to the development of the young capital of the Republic and as a whole. Due to ideal geographical location at the crossroads of major transport routes of the Eurasian continent, Astana airport convenient for flights to Europe and Asia. The capital aviation hub is able to serve all types of aircraft without weight limitation.
At present 13 airlines operates regular flights to Astana Airport, including 4 foreign, 4 and 5 Kazakh carriers of the CIS countries.
